I got some news today that makes me very happy.  As some of you may know, I am an independent consultant and I work with organizations to create and manage online communities.

Today I found out that one of my favorite, most rewarding projects ever, was nominated for a Webby Award in the "community" category.  Nancy White and I worked with the great folks at the March of Dimes on the current version of their "Share" community web site, which is based on enabling parents to share their stories and support one another using blogs and message boards.  

I'm so happy for the March of Dimes and all the people that keep the community going today- especially the members.  Congrats on the nomination everyone! Fingers crossed!

Also, there is a "People's Choice Award" and if you'd like, you can vote for Share! :)  Yay!

I have finally cleaned out my desk at the office and it feels great. A weight is lifting that has been there so long I can't remember what it was like without it. Don't get me wrong - it wasn't a burden, but more a large set of responsibilities that was always in the back of my mind.

 

A career, at least in American culture, seems to partly define who you are or partially describe the perception others have of you.  Without that career, there is a bit of a void for me. This may be a good opportunity for me to enjoy it.

 

As my colleague and friend Renee mentioned yesterday, after completing something that has been so time-consuming, the free time you thought you would have is quickly filled with smaller tasks and schedules. Before you know it, you have to wonder where it all went. Here's to enjoying more of our free time and having less of a self-imposed schedule each day. Thanks Renee!

I transitioned most of my clients this week to other folks in my group and the feeling of finality is creeping up on me. I have been at my company for almost 6 years - a long time considering I'm not yet 30. It's where I met some of my very good friends, both co-workers and clients across the country, and where I met and fell in love with Lee.

Since I started there, I've become a property owner and learned how to fix plumbing, build a deck with Dad's help, and repair 2.5 stories of siding (Okay - Lee usually climbed the higher ladder). Earning a graduate degree at the same time has taught me that "full-time" in both work and school is really just half-time each if you keep moving until you fall asleep each day. I walk away with wonderful friends, a network of contacts, and great experiences. 

 

 It's refreshing to know I can let all the work thoughts go soon and focus on something completely different. So now, the new adventure is coming up quickly and feeling very real.
